Changing injectors when I get to the third injector on the drivers side. It is already loose. After pulling it out and looking down in the hole I see carbon build up and the seat doesn't look good and smooth. I know I can get a tool to clean and smooth things up but today is Friday and it's 9:00 PM, and nothing is open till Monday. How can I clean this up? I taped a piece of heater hose to my shop vac and got the loose carbon but there is still a build up on the side of the hole and the seat looks like crap.

I used a chainsaw file on mine. Very slowly and carefully, but I didn't have to big of a buildup. I used both ends of the file, worked pretty good. Good luck!

Is the effected cylinder piston at TDC, if not any carbon dropping into the cylinder is not good. While decarboning you can remove the GP from it's hole and use that entrance as a suction flow thru for your vacuum.

Make dang sure that the new inj is not leaking compression. If it does, it'll ruin the injector very quickly.

Start the engine and squirt some non flamable Liqiud Wrench on the inj threads. Rev it a little, and watch for bubbles. If you see any bubbles, it's not seated. Check all 8 inj's.

I ran into the same problem. The fix I ended up doing was to get a couple of 12 guage shotgun wire bruches. The kind used to clean the bore. I screwed it into one cleaning rod and put it in my drill. run the drill clockwise because if you try to revers it then it will unscrew from the cleaning rod end. Work it up and down, wear some goggles. The entire hole cleaed up perfect. I useed a coat hanger with a sharped bent tip to reach down and remove the old crush washer and then vaccummed out the hole. Works perfect ran great not any problem whatsoever.

Just another idea. I took an old glow plug, gutted it and silver soldered on a 3/8" pipe nipple and put a ball valve on it. I hooked this little tool to shop air. I did each injector one by one, and with air blowing through the glow plug hole the carbon never droped into the cylinder when i removed the injector and cleaned its bore. This tool is also helpful for doing valve stem seals and or springs and keepers without head removal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
