Laugh if you must, but I had to come up with a temporary way to mount seven gauges while experimenting with a SVO setup. I previously had 3 in a ceiling pod, but they had to be moved for the explorer console mod.

HERE'S the Webshots pic of it mounted without all the gauges. Could be painted if desired. Basicallly I had noticed most std 2" gauges fit snugly inside 2" ABS pipe. Some may need a little tape to make them fit snug. I cut 7 pieces about 4-5" long. Glued them together with ABS cement at an angle toward the driver, and mounted them. The honeycomb layout is very strong too. It could be painted any color, or left in the raw.

You can easily mount 9 gauge pods in the pictured style, or invert it to get room for 11. You could even put several shorter ones underneath for 16 gauges. Go wild, impress your friends!!! To get the full ******* effect, just mount it on top of the dash /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here's another idea......maybe use epoxy or a plastic welder to make a home-made A-pillar mount. I know where where I can pick up the A-pillar trim piece at a junk yard, then epoxy or weld your ABS pieces to it and just replace the factory trim piece entirely. Even if I don't do it this way, I'm gonna use the ABS pipe idea one way or another..........I LIKE IT! YOU might be a red-neck if...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

i like it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ya just need to get some fiberglass/plastic stuff to fill in the gaps and such to really make it blend all in. hooking the gauges up would be a piece of cake as all the wires just feed right up through the pipe with lots of room to work

OK, where do you get abs pipe and glue?
could you use PVC?
(you said *******, I'm just continuing the thought!)
The honeycomb is in fact the strongest natural structure known to man, you've just used it to mount gauges, and man alive that angle just sets it of perfectly!

I think I'm familiar with the "snickered and rolled her eyes" situation... I get that alot, I'm like you, assume that's a yes and remember that forgiveness is sweeter than permission!

SO, again, abs pipe... where do you get it, and / or do you think PVC would work, and does anyone know if PVC will hold paint?

ABS and cement is cheap and at any hardware store. It's used for drains and sewage, already a gloss black. PVC might work but I haven't tested a gauge for fit in it. Either should hold paint if cleaned well first. I managed to find some ABS without any scratches for mine. Also I cut it with a miter saw to get the edges clean. You could probably bevell the edges to get a more custom look. I had thot about filling in between the pipes, but from most angles you don't see very far down, so it looks fine. I'll try to get some pics from other angles tonite.

Joat,
You are 1/2 way there! Simply start applying layers of fiberglass, sand, body filler, sand, glaze, sand, texture coat, finish color coat and done!
What size pip is that, schedule 40 2"?

DON'T LET THE RICERS GET ANY IDEAS FROM YOU JOAT!!
I can see some ricer fart can car coming around the block with PVC "gauge pods" stuck through the hood with oil pressure, water temp, vacuum pressure...AND some nice green neon accent lights around them.

Definately using your head....

I guess depends on what you consider *******. Maybe I just need to decorate it with beer bottle labels, or make it from beer cans /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

HERE is another PIC taken from the passenger side. Still don't have the actual gauges mounted. Also parden the wiring mess, have a few prototypes of stuff going on the floor.

This PIC is of the makeshift ceiling mount I made from a radio shack project enclosure. Was going to buy a nice one if I liked it, but being short, I sit too close for it to be in easy range of view.
