As a new member, I have already had one question answered, Thanks to all who responded. Now for my second question, My '02 7.3 was purchased used with 70,000 on it. It now has 160,000, and I am wanting to "tune" it a little. It has a pyrometer and boost gauge on the A post, which I know is not factory, and a friend said that it was most likely given a "Super chip" by the previous owner, hence the extra gauges. How do I find out what type, if any, of a chip is in it, and do these chips need to be swapped out to change the performance of the engine, or can they be fine tuned as they are. What can I do to find out what it is, and what kind of money is involved in upgrading to something better with better performance?

What do all of you guys run in your trucks, Thanks, Dave

If you want to check for a chip, remove the ecm and look to see if there is a chip in it. there are only 3 bolt to remove to get it out. 2 7 mm in the truck and 1 10 mm at the fire wall. Take the key out of the ignition before fooling with it and for extra precaution disconnect your batteries. The previous owner may have had it chipped and took it out before the sale or not, never know unless you check. If there is still a waxy coating on the ecm connection it has never been chipped. If it is clean it most likely had a chip.

id bet it wasnt chipped but prob had a tuner(ie..edge,bullydog)7.3s tolerate tuners and chips well as long as egts are monitored.the reason for the gauges, but you can pull the cover from the pcm and check.if your looking for a chip call cale at bts 1 870 422 3973 he can set you up with a 5 or 6 pos chip tuned for your needs.bts has the best customer support anywhere, you cant beat it.
