chugging and puffing

ok i have a friend who has a 93 and he was wondering if there is something to fix his chugging and white smoke puffing at start, but when its warmed up its fine has anyone else had this problem? and if so what fixed it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

How many miles on the 93, they are susceptable to valve guide wear which emmits a loud woof woof into the intake if it's an intake valve and the woof goes out the exhaust if it is an exhaust valve. White smoke and chuging could be caused by a burnt or stuck valve too a sign of incomplete combustion. Should do a compression test.....
