O.K. here is one for you guys. Just had a tranny upgrade and chip added to my 1999 power stroke. While towing the trailer for the first time We started getting a 'Check engine soon" service light. It would come on and then go off several minutes. The engine seamed to lose some power but not sure. Can't feel any difference when not towing. Here were the conditions:
Curse control on
5th wheel loaded
Speed 65
Light came on and off while the engine is loading and unloading
When we got to Macon, Ga. Checked the air filter and purchased new one and installed.
Return trip:
same old same old problem
took it out of cruse control and light stopped coming on. ran 65 all the way home.
At a red light near home took off hard and light came on immediately. went out severl minutes after unloaded.
The next day went to 'autozone' and had them check if a code had been dropped. NO CODE.
Checked fuel filter and it looks dirty. Ordered some off the net. Will up date after install the new fuel filter.

Does any one know or is there a list of what will bring in the 'Check engine soon" light? Other than selling the truck. any suggestions?

Code readers at autozone usually won't pull codes from our rigs, need a little better scan tool. Sounds like maybe overboost? Locate somebody with a top-notch reader..

$20 says it's the 1211 code. The AZ readers are useless on our trucks, you need a code reader especially for our trucks. If you know anyone with a superchips or SCT X2 programmer or AE software they can read it, or Snap On scanners also work, otherwise it is off to Ford. If you have a chip it will set the code when towing, especially if it was going up a grade where the truck was having to work. The 1211 code just means the injectors are calling for more oil pressure than the HPOP can put out, no harm no foul. The only solution is big oil and your wallet about 20 C notes lighter.

Do you have guages, what were they reading, sounds like overboost. If you have a chip, you really need guages.

Here is some more on the suject....

My bet its 1211 also

May not mean much, maybe normal wear ,, or nothing....

X7 KOER ON-DEMAND DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P1211
DTC P1211 indicates that injection control pressure was above or below commanded desired pressure during self test mode.
Possible causes:
incorrect oil or viscosity
poor oil quality
gel fuel/no fuel
low fuel pressure
damaged IPR valve
high-pressure oil system leak
damaged high-pressure oil pump
damaged PCM
Verify correct oil quality/viscosity and correct fuel grade are being used for the temperature conditions.

You guys are correct. It had a P1211 code dropped. In addition, it also has a waste gate problem (what ever that is), and some type of heater or coolant problem all of which the diesel mechanic said was potential emission problems. He said not to worry until it started blowing black smoke when normal driving or towing, and/or when the mileage drops. He said the autozone code reader (and other over-the-counters readers) would not read all the code problems on these trucks. Now I know where to take the truck for work!!! Thanks guys for the help!
