at about 200 miles this message started showing up how long and how often should i expect to see this?
That's whats called a regen. Timing, duration and frequency will vary depending on driving conditions. No big deal they all do it. It's just part of the new Diesel. Kind of like when 'Catalytic Converters" were added to gas engines.

Enjoy the truck !!

One regen every 150-200 miles depending on how much load and how fast you drive. The
faster more regens the higher load the more regens.

I recently got the Cleaning Exhaust Filter again and took your advice and ran it till it cleared, I found a back country road and let it go (about 60-70) once the pavement ended (about 20 miles from the point that it came on (the message)) I turned around floored it (hit about 80 in no time) then it cleared I dropped it dow to about 45 and cruised back into town, I didnt see smoke again until this afternoon, I was running a little late so warmup time was cut short (way short) and when I was merging onto a main road I had to get on it and man did it smoke, Fortunately the 17th I am getting new fuel filters (x3), a new exhaust filter, and some other things that the dealer has promised to fix... ( bought it used ). sorry to rant have a great one...:ford:

Unless you get stuck like I did with a couple of weeks where you're only doing 3 to 7 mile trips at a time. Regen whenever the engine hit the right parameters. Felt like I was in a do-loop of some type until I could get it on the interstate for about 15 minutes, then all was fine.

Mine has done regen twice. First time at about 3500 miles , second one at 4,000 miles. Have 4500 miles on truck. I stare at the message and wonder will it go off before I reach my destination. Both times it went into regen I was towing. Have not had a regen yet when just going to the Walmart.

Not sure, But... I recently changed my Air Filter, (stock) also changed where I buy my fuel. meaning I started buying fuel from a place that is contantly refilling thier tanks. so that tells me that their fuel is not sitting for very long. also noticed that the black smoke has stopped I also bled the fuel system of any water that was in the lines. still have the "stained" tail pipes but since I power washed them I have not noticed anymore soot build up....
