I was wondering what you could use to clean the outsides of your IC pipes? I just ordered new boots since my other ones kept slipping off as well as leaking a little bit. Just wondering what wouldn't leave any residue or anything that might cause the new boots to keep slipping off? Thanks

I recently removed the foil wrap from my hot side intercooler pipe. I used a wire wheel on a drill, and some SOS pads, but the cleaning products I used were WD-40, brake cleaner, and Simple Green.

It looks like this now:

If you've seen one with the foil torn off, you've seen that glue stuff that's practically cemented to the pipe. Soooo... WD-40 works well, brake cleaner works well, and Simple Green's good to finish it up. I rinsed it with a garden hose, too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

edit - on the boots, I used Simple Green... guess I was worried that something like brake cleaner would degrade the rubber or whatever the material is. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Easy foil glue removal is soak it in carb cleaner and use a powerwasher to clean it...works like a charm.

I do have to say that all this stuff that Ford did to "FIX" the original superduty due to turbo noise (turbo wheel, foil, etc.), was there must have been alot of wives interviewed for the surveys.

I sold one of the first 99's to go off my uncle's lot. Driving it around, I noticed very little of the stuff that Ford supposedly fixed.

My biggest ***** was the fact that the parking brake release was a pain in the a$$ when the truck was equipped with 6 speed and I was wearing roper style boots (Wellingtons for those of you east of Mississippi and North of Mason Dixon). <---Good natured ribbing intended. The top of the boot seemed to catch on the horizontal parking brake release below the dash. Seemed that the noise was the way things were supposed to be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Quit the car business long before I was able to buy my '02, and I remember a thought crossing my head on the test drive, "damn, something does not sound right."

Saving this thread for the foil removal and the boot cleaning tips. I havent even been able to enjoy my new CCV mod, because the oil is still on the boots. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
