My clutch peddle is starting to feel mushy at the top. And doesn't dis-engage until the peddle is pretty low. I also find it a little harder to shift. My truck/clutch has about 135,000 miles on it. I've heard that there is an upgrade for the Slave Cylider & hydrolics on the clutch. I've also hear horror stories about the original design. Do you think my hydrolics are going bad or the clutch or both? What should I do first?

Thats about the time mine went out. If you replace the clutch might as well do the hydraulics. Only another $100 or so.

My clutch hydraulics went out at about 92,000 miles. The pedal just went flat to the floor and wouldn't come back. Prior to that, it was disengaging slower and slower. Usually, when the clutch is going bad, it starts slipping.

The whole assembly is something like $140 and I put it in in about 30 min. Very easy!

More then likely it is your clutch. They dont wear out and start slipping on our trucks, they start coming apart. Mine first one did it at 140,000.

Had the same issue at 155k on the family 00' and changed the clutch out with a Luk...pedal is now even mushier...guess I need to target the slave cylinder.

Thanks guys I talked to a mechanic at a highly recommended diesel shop here in Sacramento and he suggested, an upgraded South Bend Clutch and all new Hydrolics. I guess these Fords are notorious for the hydrolics going bad. He also said that Ford had and upgraded design for the hydrolics, that makes the clutch not so hard to push in.

If you get a SB clutch, it won't be so hard to push the pedal. In fact, I had to remove the assist spring on mine because it felt like a Honda!
