I have a 2004 f 250 6.0 super duty that is having trouble with the cold start it turns over but acts like its not getting a good prime but it smokes like a ***** but once it started and runs for a little it starts right back up .

Sounds like something with the glow plugs...relay?

Do you still have the EGR system?

I checked the glow plugs and relay they are fine..... white and no i did a EGR delete

Check FICM voltage

With the codes you are getting, I doubt that you are getting FICM sync.

How did you check the FICM voltage? KOEO and then also when cranking? What were the voltage values in your tests?

Even w/ good voltage the FICM can be a problem. Do you have access to a known good FICM you can swap with?

Mark, i have same problem, as when i PM'd you. FICM changed by ford 11 months ago. whats procedure for checking ficm? sorry guys, disregard, found the procedure in a search.

it is possible you don't have the most recent flash. My 04 had the same problems, had it reflashed and it was like a new truck, problems went away

You have a bad FICM with that voltage.

I started mine once without waiting for the glow plug lamp to go out. Took a couple days running before it quit smoking at start up.
