Hey there, I'm about to do the injector o-rings but I wanted to make sure that my engine had good compression before I started. My questions are the following:
Will a 300# gauge be sufficient for the compression test?
What kind of compression should I be seeing?
What percent difference between cylinders is normal or unacceptable?
Is it possible to lose an oil control ring w/o losing compression rings?
Is it possible to lose compression rings with no noticeable effect on how the truck runs? (smooth idle-no missing-plenty of power)
I appologize for the long post but I've got all the symptoms of o-ring failure plus constant light white smoke (almost haze) at idle. I'm just trying to make sure that the problem is not deeper than under the valve covers. Thanks for any advice, Chris

compression should be 440-460 psi, done dry, you can not do a diesel wet, anythign over 400 is good, msut be with in 20-30 psi, with thsi much compression any damage will not be hidden.

Here is a thread that I talk about the compression tester I found. Great price!

The short answer is :
John at GSI told me:

6600 - $23.73 - gauge alone
6610 - $47.58 - gauge in carry case with 3 common adapters
(John said he would throw in the 6669 adapter with the 6610 kit)
6668 - $10.75 - ford 7.3 DI adapter

Hey, sorry I didn't get back sooner, I had to work & just got home.
Thanks for the replies, I would have been very surprised to see my 300# gauge explode after it tried to read 400+ pounds. Hey Nit, what do you mean by doing the test dry? Do you mean unplugging the injector harnesses?
Thanks for the link Radar I'll be checking that out tomorrow.
Thanks again guys! Chris
