I am looking at buying a '03 f250 super duty in the next couple of days it has about 150,000 miles and seems to be in great shape. I get to go view it tuesday and because its at an auction I cant talk to the previous owner. I know that there is light hail damage which I am not concerned with, however it also says mechanical issues but does not get into detail on what is wrong with it. It has a run and drives guarantee. I am not new to working on pickups, however I have never worked on a diesel. Is there a whole lot of difference in wrenching on them? What should I look out for when I go to look at this truck on Tuesday? Any other tips on what I can do to figure out what is wrong mechanically and if the truck is worth my time and money would be great. I will keep this post updated and I greatly appreciate everybody's time in helping me.

Welcome B.

What does a "run & drive guarantee" give you? Mechanical issues, but don't know what? Can u test drive it? No, 6L totally diff. than gasser. Don't know latest price, but maybe $15K for reman. 6L.? Real crap shoot, do u feel lucky? Think hard. Good luck on outcome.

As far as I know the run and drives guarnetee is stating that it will start up and move, doesnt mean it runs well though. I can not test drive it however I am able to start it up roll it forwards and backwards, I am going to go look at it today, as there are no bids still and it goes for sale tomorrow. I will post my findings on here.

Well I went and looked at the truck. It started up and went into gear. A little white smoke came out upon startup. Sounded like there was a pretty decent miss. The fluids all seemed to be normal. There also was a little red pushbutton switch by the hood release, possibly for a mod chip? I have until noon tomorrow to bid on it and as of now there are no other bids as of now.. what is your opinions on the situation. Thanks for the help

If its an "as is sale" then its even a bigger crap shoot. You may/maynot get lucky? I sure don't know. Old saying "The sweetness of cheap price is never worth bitterness of poor quality"

btw..a/f light on. Check the a/f minder under hood & see where it reads. How Filter Minder Works, Automobile Parts, Air Filter, Fuel Monitor, Car Acces Badly restricted a/f can cause running issues, as with any vehicle.
