Considering Bilstein Shocks - where to buy?

When searching for previous threads looking for others with this same problem, I did find one thread where the author did call Bilstien about this. They claimed ignorance then too, but finally acknowledged the problem to him at that time. The thread was a year or two old. I'll see if I can dig it up again.

Edit: searched the archives without any luck.

Dennis,

My F250 is 2WD. Do you think I will have the same problem? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Are the 2" or 4" blocks the rubber stoppers mounted above the axel? I'm still learning....

I don't know about the 2wds. I thought I remembered that all 2wds came with 2" blocks, so it shouldn't be an issue.

I have had Bilsteins on my last 5 trucks and have not bottomed out on the shocks. If you are doing this you are grossly overloaded. The frame stops are NOT there for weight control.

[/ QUOTE ]Of course not, but I ocassionally tow on some pretty rough roads. A large bump or pot hole, could cause the springs to bottom with a heavy load. I installed air bags to prevent this, as I do like the shocks. My feeling is, that if the shocks are properly designed for the application, they will be able to handle the full travel of the suspension. The real solution isn't air bags or overload springs. It's more lift under the rear springs.

I bought mine from eshocks.com. If I were to do it again, I'd get something else. They're too long for the rear of an F250 4x4 with stock 2" blocks.

can you say more about this. How much too long??

If they are not bottoming out (too short) why is too long a problem??

Thanks,
garyT

[/ QUOTE ]The Bilstiens will bottom out before my springs hit the bump stops. It's not by much...probably 1". With an F350, this isn't a problem since they have 4" blocks in the back. I ended up installing air bags to prevent the truck from ever bottoming out the shocks.
