I have notice that coolant is apparently blowing out of the cap. The truck is NOT overheating. I have refilled it several times to factory Cold mark--and it still blows out the coolant.

The new cold level seems to be about 1 1/2 inches below the cold mark on the fill tank.

Anyone else having this problem? Guess I will contact the dealer.

Thanks,

By "blowing out the top", do you mean you can see dried coolant residue all over the inside of your engine bay or that the level keeps dropping and you have to refill frequently?

If you had a 6.0 PSD I'd say it is completely a normal trait and that your coolant bottle didnt have the new sticker. Since it is a 6.4, no idea, hopefully an isolated incident, Ford doesnt need the old coolant burping all over again.

Yes, there is dried coolant residue all down behind the fill tank and on the steering column shaft.

Need to search the 6.0 engine forum for that - this is the wrong forum & a thread hijack.

Its called puking so search the 6.0 forum for that ever so technical term "puking" and enjoy a new set of head gaskets, maybe a couple of pushrods, and 3 weeks downtime - I did.

As for the new one - I had the same "puking" occurance that was noticed at 1200 miles. I am hoping that this as just an overfill condition - as the coolant was spotted in the driver's side wheel well along with the typical steering column crusty. I have not noticed a reoccurance since cleaning up the initial "Burp". (Another technical term for your 6.0 research.)

The rest of the truck and motor have been excellent in this first 2000 miles.

Mine has done that also, comes out the short black hose behind the metal black tank/cap. Dealer has tested cap and "bleed" that system. Was told that tank, cooler and line are just for the fuel cooler, but my coolant still goes down in the "normal" cooling system at the degas bottle.

Make sure to add coolant to the cold mark only when the eng. is cold. Not when its hot. We have been having some issues w/ the cap not venting properly. So try a new cap. So far head gskts. are a thing of the past on these trks. unless they have overheated extremely. We have also had a small issue w/ the heater hose fitting that goes into the frt. cover plugging up causing a restriction. Its made of plastic, how stupid!!

I'll be sure to tell the supplier (who's a colleague/collaborator of mine) that he's "stupid". Actually, there's a fair bit of very interesting tech in how those tubes are made, using a process known as "gas assisted injection molding".

Can you describe the obstruction in a more technical manner than "stupid"?

Which cap has been an issue? Doesn't seem to leak from the clear degas tank with the high/low mark, plastic cap that click when tight. Mine is leaking out of the black tank with the metal "traditional" twist over hump and twist again til it stops, cap. This I'm told is the cooling system for fuel cooling.

Just an observation, but the new style of coolant tubes appear to be very unforgiving to any type of bending motion. I had one fracture during an injector replacement, while positioning the GPCM bracket aside.

What are some of the benefits of the new tube construction?

Greg, the big benefit over a fabbed metal tube is that it's all one-piece, net-shape out of the mold, instead of a tube that has to be formed from sheet stock, cut, bent, and have assorted end features and brackets welded/brazed on, and then coated (e-coat or powder, external only). No corrosion issues on the plastic pieces, either.

But no, they're not particularly bendable. Neither are the metal ones, really, at least if you want to preserve their integrity for the life of the vehicle.

O.K. we have a 2008 350 4X4 6.4 King Ranch with 1700 miles and all of a sudden today we are having this problem. Dealership kept it all day....found that the overflow cap was not screwed on tightly. Got it home, still leaking from driver side front bumper. Any ideas?

It's just dripping right now (very slowly at that)........but at one time it must have poured because there is a huge spot on the cement that is not just water because it hasn't dried up yet. I noticed this morning before I brought it in to the dealership. I started the truck before I actually drove it to make sure that there were no warning light, low fluid indicators, etc. Didn't want to cause more problems by driving it. Also kept an eye on the temperature gauge while driving, but that stayed at a normal temp.
So I kinda just wanted to see if that was going to be the end of my problem or just the beginning. My husband and I have been Ford owners for 25+ years and were really impressed with this 08 diesel. Before purchasing a new truck he wanted to wait until this new engine was available and I'm glad he did because it came with an awesome look also. I just love driving this truck!
