You know the one. Sitting up there on top of the engine near the coolant recovery bottle. Suppose to be the independent cooling system for the fuel/electronics or something. Anyway I tried to see into the little sight glass to determine what the coolant level was. Could not see anything, doubt if I could if it was full anyway. So with the engine cool I removed the cap, stood up on the bumper and peered inside. Nuttin'. I had a gallon of Liquid gold on the shelf so I topped it off, may have taken half a cup of coolant. Got to find out how much it holds and is it a self contained system, ie. does it have hoses to another radiator up front? Keeping my eye on the level to see if it decreases again. I do not think there is any dashboard light to warn you if the system runs dry.

1. It's a fuel and turbo actuator cooling system. Yes, it's self contained.

2. Level should be about 1/2 way into the sight glass. Take cap off, get a flashlight and shine it in.

3. If it took a cup, then you may not have air in the system. Probably wouldn't hurt to bleed it, none-the-less. the procedure is simple enough. IIRC, I saw it somewhere on a diesel forum. Can't remember which.

4. If you follow the hoses going away from it, you'll be able to trace them to the front mounted radiator dedicated to that system. I'll let you do some homework and figure out which one it is. ;).

It's the coolant reservoir for the fuel & electronics cooler. It looks like a little silver radiator with a little radiator cap on top. It's kind of behind and to the passenger side of the degas bottle and has a sight glass in the side. It's a PITA to reach...I have to stand on the front bumper to be able to reach it. I believe they show it in the engine compartment diagram in the diesel supplement manual.

Could be depending upon the level when you closed the cap. Could be the cap is not holding pressure.

Takes the same as the degas bottle
