yesterday i found my coolant to the MIN line in the degas bottle so today i add some to the MAX line and whent for a drive. when i came back i open the hood and found some coolant did spit out the degas cap onto the battery. first tough, change the degas cap (witch i did not did just yet). after reading a bit look like it might be HG or crack head.....

last march, i had to take the motor out for some work and i install new HG with ARP studs. Heads got look at to make sure they are strait but not for crack.

coolant does not have weird color or smell and cap is clean. just did oil change 2 days ago and everything was normal..

I sill don't have my aftermarket gauges so im running only by the dummy OEM gauges in the dash and never had a sign of temperature rising

i'm planning to get a new cap today or tomorrow but looking for more input also.

I strongly suggest getting a Stant cooling system pressurizer and a bottle adapter.

First check oil and make sure it ok.

Pressurize system, get up to temp and watch the needle. See if compression raises it. See if it holds after shut down.

Check underside of oil fill cap for creamy oil. Flip cap and see if it wants to jump off.

Look for leaks as well when pressurized.

All my stuff for pressurizing the coolant system is at home, 5300 kms away lol

Oil is good, did a oil change 2 days ago and the old oil ad no sign of anything abnormal. Under the oil cap, everything is nice and clean. I did the test of flipping the oil filler cap upside down and it stay in place.

I just replace the degas cap and drove it till it got up to temp. When i came back it had no sign of coolant getting out of there. Will check the coolant level tomorrow morning when it cool down.

Hope this fixe it but if not, ill try to find the tool to do the pressurize test tomorrow

Having much the same problem with my '08. Once the coolant is hot, it will push out the degas cap. It takes 15 miles to get the ECT to 195 (doesn't go above 200); thermostats are new and tested okay. Radiator is a higher capacity after market. Cap holds pressure, and is a 3rd new one. All held pressure, actually. I had replaced the water pump prior to this. Also flushed and refilled with Fleetrite NOAT using an AirLift tool. Oil doesn't show anything unusual.

So got the new cap install yesterday and it look like the problem might be fixed. At cold the coolant level is still good and took the truck for a good ride, not sign of coolant spitting out anywhere. Will see more on monday when i hook the TT to the truck.

I will get another degas cap on order because the one i just bought at napa doesn't look good quality and dont trust it for too long.

Any body heard of a upgraded degas cap for 7.3.... I think i read that somewhere but cant find it anymore

Came back outside today to look at the truck after it cool down and BIG lake of coolant under the truck????

So start looking and found the bottom hose unplug from the engine??? Look like the collar was never tighten?????

Install the hose back with new collar and ill test it tomorrow. Not sure if the collar was never tighten (don't think so, did close to 8000km towing and never loose any coolant) or it just let go ??????

Do you think the new cap allowed for higher PSI in the system and that could have been enough to push off the loosely clamped hose?

The new caps have a larger diameter spring. The photo on the left is the older version with smaller spring diameter.

Sorry for the delay, got really busy the last couple day.

My The one on the left if the OEM one, the one i install from napa look like the one on the right.

I think my problem was the collar on the hose and it was sucking air and loosing coolant. I think i will install the OEM one back on. I heard those aftermarket one are not great

Yan,

The one on the left in post #8 is the old style OEM that had a small spring and was prone to losing spring strength and pressure. I recall reading the spring used on those was the same size Ford uses in their cars.

The photo here is what the new Ford OEM degas cap looks like. I bought it from Tousley about 4 months ago. It has a larger diameter spring.
