This is a long story so i will make it short about a month ago my drillers truck lost one of its idler pullys we thought it had fallen out of the engine area and was gone for good. well two days a go we found it the hard way. some how it had got pulled into the cooling fan and bent it in ways i have never seen, punched several holes in the radiator and ate the fan shroud. so the real problem is i cant find a part number to the fan, ford says they cant find it. does any one know what the part number is. some info would really be helpful thanks in advance. truck is a 97 350

I cannot give you a part number, but I checked powerstrokeshop.com and they list the fan clutch for $225.86 and the fan blades for $128.07. I can't believe that a dealership couldn't help.

Give me a call today, and we'll get this straightened out. Please have your VIN and if you have any engineering numbers off what's left, it would be helpful. You can also post here and I'll check back.
Thanks, Bob

Has anybody tried the thermal fan clutches from the autoparts stores?I think they go for around $170.My fan acts like it wants to run most of the time.

Was your fan running all the time before you replaced it?

PUT ON AN ELECTRIC FAN!

no need to buy a new shroud
no need to spend $$$ on a new clutch and fan

MUCH quieter

longer water pump life

better fuel mileage

lots of us are running them and are very happy!

Which fan did you use and does it perform well when pulling a load?

there have been several posts on this subject suggesting windstar dual fans - they can be had new off ebay for less than $150 - hook one up to a thermostatic control, the other to come on with the ac.

The wiring takes a bit of doing - you could always just put it on a switch in the cab in about 15 minutes - or - if you only have 5 minutes like I did when I first installed mine - you can wire it to one of the under hood maxi fuses that gets power whenever the key is on.... quick and dirty but it works.

the fan in my truck is off a honda, it only covers the center part of the radiator - it's on all the time, the truck never warms up unless it's hot out, the ac is on, and I'm running it hard.

some guys here have pulled trailers with NO FAN AT ALL and not overheated, the cooling systems in these trucks are amazingly efficient.

What I'm saying is - don't do what I did - it's quick and dirty - but - you can put just about any electric fan into these trucks and it will be enough to cool it unless you are pulling a huge trailer through death valley with the ac on at WOT with an automatic! ;-)

Does anyone have a good write up on replacing the fan with electric fans? I purchased a set of fans from a windstar for my bronco that I am pretty sure I still have sitting in the garage. I am accepting a new position that will require my commute to go from 30-40 miles roundtrip to 70-80 roundtrip. Any extra MPG I can squeeze out of the beast will be great. I don't tow and I am not afraid of overheating - driving on the higway. I also have an aux pusher fan mounted in front of the radiator - so in stop and go traffic not going to be a problem. I also have a thermostatic controller which I am going to wire to a switch as well.

This may be slightly off topic, but relates to the fan and fan clutch. I have never heard my fan come on, or perhaps, I have never heard my fan shut off. I am not sure which it is.

Is there a quick or easy way to find out if my fan clutch works?

When the engine is off and cooled down, try to spin the fan by hand.

if it spins with some resistance, but you could spin it maybe one revolution without it coming to a stop, it's OK.

if it will not spin free at all, it's locked up, turning all the time and robbing you of lots of power.

I could hear mine plain as day - like a prop on an airplane when it was engaged
- but my wife complains that my ears are "too sensitive"

Thanks. I read that and now my fan clutch certainly needs to be replaced. O'Reilly has a Hayden unit with a lifetime warranty.

If only I remember how to get that thing off...

Maybe they rent the tools ..Or just a few LIGHT taps with a small drift & a hammer on the highest point on the nut. Rt hand threads..

(I'm sure i'll get skewered for that bit of advice) , but it'll do in a pinch...

I got it off no problem.

Yep. My fan clutch was stuck - thanks for the help. The rig is noticably quieter, and the new clutch is about three times the size of the old one. The old one was labeled Dura-Drive - definitely not a ford part.

Sorry to have hi-jacked this thread.
