I just picked up a new CPS from Ford...$37.00 with tax. I don't have a problem with the one in the truck but should I just replace it and put old one in the glove box ??? It would be lots easier replacing it on my time when I want to. Oh yea I've got 80,000 miles on it now.

Thanks

GO for it, I got one for the lady who owns the farm where I keep my horse. She has a 01 cc f350 dully and I do'nt want her sitting on the side of the road with horses in the trailer on a hot day, so I'm gonna do the same thing your aasking about, put the new one on and throw the old one in the glove box. Cheep insurance, and the old one worked at 98,ooo miles. Mine just went out a couple weeks ago I have two in my glove box, had 104000 on the ticker.

How do you guys know the new one isn't going to crap out in 10k miles or less? I had a buddy that got 23k miles out of his while I got 96k out of mine. I think the CPS' are a crap shoot. I've got two spares (I do a good bit of distance driving with my wife and 2 small children). I bought my first 2 years ago for ~$100 and my second about a month ago for $15. I figure now I have one to use if I find some poor soul on the highway without one.

Had a '97 that lost one after about 175k, my '03 has about 108k on it with the stock CPS. You never know. I have a spare in the glove box though for when it does decide to give up.

This is not a maintenance item, you replace it when it goes out. Some have gotten three blocks out of a brand new sensor while others get 200K out of the stock one, so replacing the one that is working doesn't assure you of anything. Carry the spare and tools to change it. I just did my first one on the side of the road yesterday, but I was prepared. Ordered two more replacements today.

Thanks for the replies....It's Vegas...Its summer and I do not want to replace my first one on the side of the freeway when it is 110 out !!! Sooooo I did it in the shade today and put the spare in the glove box. I know that the new one could go at any time but now I could do it in the dark on the side of the road if I had to.

Thanks again

No one knows if the new one will last as long as the OEM, but It is still cheep insurance . and you have the old one that worked incase the new one goes south, The stories are interesting though on how some don't last but a few thousand miles and others are going strong. I carry two now, one for me and one for the guy on thew side of the road. Like HH said you never know when you'll be going down the road and theres a guy with a dead truck, could be you so you hope theat if you ever have a problem someone will be nice enough to stop and help
