Hello,

I purchased a 2003 f-250 4x4/crew cab/king ranch/6.0L diesel with 192,000 miles about a month ago. The truck has been solid until a couple a days ago when I noticed that upon pressing the "set/accel" button to cruise down the highway, that the whole instrument cluster/panel completely shuts off (no reading of speed/gas/oil and trans temp/ etc...). The engine does not fluctuate while any of this is going on. In fact the cruise control itself still works if I leave it running, it's just that I have no instrument panel!

Any ideas? I plan on taking my truck in to the shop to get looked at in the morning, so I hope this does not end up being some bigger problem.

Thanks,

Will Phillips

Issue found and solved!

For anyone who might like to know, in my previous problem above, I left out some critical information: the truck I bought came with a Code Alarm Remote Starter key. According to the shop mechanic, the alarm and remote starter system was installed incorrectly (i.e.-wires were in a mess, power was being tapped incorrectly and from the wrong power sources from the truck). In other words, it sounds like it was installed by anyone but a pro. So I called the guy that I bought the truck from and sure enough he said HE installed the Code Alarm system- again corroborating that it was not installed by a pro. Needless to say the job done by the previous owner, caused the instrument cluster to short.

I am now paying for the shop mechanics to rewire the system correctly (2-4 hrs at $109 per hour) and install a new instrument cluster ($500).
