I read an article the other day that said Ford and Navistar have settled their differences and as of Dec of 2009 Navistar will no longer be making engines for Ford for their Super Duties. Has anyone heard what the replacement motor will be ?
Not trying to cast a cloud over the new scorpion motor but if Navister has been building the powerstrokes all these years and there has been bugs to work out, I would think Fords new engine is not going to be bug free neither.yup, the 6.7 liter scorpion. 400+ HP and 700+ lb ft of torque. Ford is designing and building it. I like this move, I like the fact that Ford will be the only company building an in house motor and they should be experienced enough by now because of the 6.0 problems and everything they've had to do with the 6.4. I hope Ford has that ornary male ego where they want the most powerful and efficient motors in their trucks. They already have the best trucks, the Navistar engines aren't as tuneable as the cummins and the Duramax, I hope that changes.
On another note, I wish ford would offer a V8 AND an I6, blow the others out of the water.

I know there will be times when BOTH FMC and their customers will wish Ford would have left the Navistar engines in these trucks. Not trying to cast a cloud over the new scorpion motor but if Navister has been building the powerstrokes all these years and there has been bugs to work out, I would think Fords new engine is not going to be bug free neither.
Ford has built Diesels in the past. Not trying to cast a cloud over the new scorpion motor but if Navister has been building the powerstrokes all these years and there has been bugs to work out, I would think Fords new engine is not going to be bug free neither.
Yes and no. while they were built by a division of FoMoCo they were actually first developed and sorted for use in New Holland tractors.Ford has built Diesels in the past.

From 2003
PSA Peugeot Citroen and Ford Motor Co. recently introduced two new diesel engines jointly developed for an investment of nearly $1 billion. The development of the 1.6 and 2 L common rail direct injection engines was part of the second phase of a cooperative venture between the two auto-makers. The engines are to be phased into both partners' product lines during the second half of the year. The two companies announced production capacity is to eventually exceed 1.6 million engines a year. These engines are the outgrowth of the companies' collaboration on a 1.4 L engine in 2001. The project required an investment of $410 million.
I hope they are smart enough to build there new motor inline.
Not exactally better, just a different design.Ford should consider designing a inline six diesel. The 5.9 cummins in dodges are I6's and are know for putting on a million miles. They also get the best fuel economy out of the powerstroke and duramax's. I've never seen a v8 in a semi truck but all inline sixex, why because there a better engine design.
