I have been told by the dealer service center that I need to replace my DEF Pump from a trouble code that came up. They dont have one in stock and it will take one to two weeks to get one. He said I can drive with the current one but risk the truck going into the limp/safe mode. Anyone know how likely it is for that to happen or what needs to happen more in the failure of the pump to end up in limp mode. We are supposed to take a trip with the truck before the new pump comes in but dont want to end up stranded with the family.

That depends on the fault. If the reductant pump causes the aftertreatment system to malfunction and not effectively lower N0x the check engine light will illuminate and the engine will go into a derate mode and limit vehicle speed to 50 MPH for a period of time eventually dropping to 5 MPH or basically idled. You will have sufficient warning to safely get the truck off the road but once a lack of NOx reduction is detected you are done until the condition is corrected and a drive cycle is successfully performed. And no, clearing the code(s) or disconnecting the batteries and dancing around the truck will NOT reset this. :(

Wrong pump pj61. At $7700 you likely are talking about the fuel injection pump. We are discussing the Diesel Exhaust Fluid pump.

When my light came on for this, my truck did not go into limp mode. I was able to clear my CEL, but it came back on. That's when I took it in. It was replaced under warranty. But as I said, mine never went into limp mode. I must have had the "not as bad" fault. Haven't had any issues since.
