On my 2011f250 I would get a under half and a 800 to empty message. Now i have a 2016 f250 and I only get a 500 to empty message never a under half message.
My concern is when I get the 500 to empty message it will not hold a 2.5 gallon jug this has happened both times i got the message.
Is it possible that the 2 sensors are swapped in the tank?
Before on my 2011 when I got the under half I would drove another 100 miles or so and when I added fluid it would hold the entire 2.5 gallon.

highly doubtful the sensors are swapped. on my 2015, I do not get a half full message. I can look at the information display and see if ok or under half full is all before the count down. at half full, it is not down enough to add the 2.5 gallon jug.

I changed my oil on Friday when reseting the oil life I looked and the DEF said OK then Sunday it was at 500 to empty but only held 2 gallon or so.
It's done the same thing both times I added fluid I don't know why it's Starting the countdown with over a half tank of fluid.
I'd hate to go into limp mode with a half tank. I guess I need to keep driving for a couple hundred miles before I refill so it'll hold the entire jug.

Should last oil change to oil change. This is a VERY general criteria to follow since everyone will drive/use their truck differently.

If towing from medium to heavy, the DEF consumption will be higher.

Agree--sensors are not swapped. The function on my 2015 is the same, at half full (or empty) there is not enough room for a full 2.5 gallon bottle to fit. I normally wait another 200-300 miles then add the full bottle.

I agree with the 1/2 full or empty thing. But mine goes from OK to 500 miles to empty and it will not hold 2-1/2 gallon. My last truck at 800 miles to empty would hold 3-1/2 to 4 gallon.
At 500 miles to empty mine is acting like it should at 1/2 full.

My truck has been below half for a couple of thousand miles now and it doesn't show any miles count down.

FYI"

My level display has change since the a PCM update a year ago so I think that this is what is different about your 11 vs 13. I've been monitoring it with Torque Pro and hope to collect more data on my next trip. I suspect since I'm daily driving that the SCR doesn't use a lot of DEF and the PCM can calculate the amount of DEF used, it just uses the level sensors in the tank to verify the amount in the tank.

Level sensors in the DEF tank are meaningless for the most part. I monitored the level with TP and the CTS and it read 66% at the lowest point during a trip and never dropped lower even when the 500 mile count down started.
