I'm stuck. The truck won't start. I had the classic "cps" failure symptom. Saturday on the interstate the engine died for a second, then came back. Sunday was OK. Monday morning it cranks, but no start. I've had this problem before with my other truck, so I got a CPS and changed it. It still won't start. I've checked the fuses and the fuel filter bowl will fill after a dump. I've seen a lot of discussion on different CPS part #'s so I pulled the new one to compare. The old one has stamped 1126 CC93. The new one is 1116 MC93.
Can anyone verify this is a direct replacement and could I have a DOA? Or does anybody have any suggestions?

MtnStroke put a new one in, went maybe 1/2 mile and poopy went the NEW cps. He got another new one, put it in and no problems since. Maybe you could send him a message?

I had the same symptoms and turned out to be a bad ICP sensor not CPS. Ran fine until it got hot(sitting in traffic or after parking for a few minutes) then it would just die and crank but not ever start until it cooled back down for 1-2 hours. You would think Ford would make decent sensors for these things... I guess they are low-bidder parts made in some sweatshop in who-knows-what country!

I unplugged the bowl heater and it started right up.

I'm having an intermittant no restart when warm condition and I will take that suggestion of the ICP sensor and replace it. What on earth makes you think the bowl heater is the cause of your problems? It has to be a coinsidence.

I thought I had my problem solved with a new CPS...then I thought I had it solved with a new PCM...damn truck left me sitting at work waiting for a ride from my wife again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

The bowl heater idea came from a different post. It is on the same circuit as the CPS. Usally it shorts and blows the fuse, but I guess if it is drawing too much amperage (but not enough to blow the fuse) it will draw down the power for the cps. Anyway, it's running now.

The IPR valve will create a similar situation as well...very easy to rebuild economically.

Ahh, another interesting yet brief post. Could you expand on that statement please? Rebuild IPR? Economically?

ICPs fail, but they are VERY VERY rare!!! Not worth carrying a spare for they are so rare.

ICPs get hot tho (sitting right in the head) and the electrical connectors expand and contract.

Unplug the ICP, and use a small pair of needlenose to give the female end of the pins a gentle squeeze so that it grabs the male pins in the plug better.

Its common for the ICP connector to get water in it and corrode (if you wash the engine alot) and its also happened that oil will blow past the ICP sensor and get into the plug. THAT is the sign of a bad ICP right there!

Well guy's I guess I have other problems.Wen. morning the truck started up, a little cold blooded, but after a mile or so ran fine. Did about 200 miles of driving, starting and stopping about 10 times. This morning ....nothing. It cranks, but won't start. Back to where I was a few days ago. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
