I posted this question in another site, but i`m looking for some feedback. If anyone is due for a drive clean in ontario that is over the 4500kg mark, your stuck doing this "snap idle test" for HD diesel trucks. I`m really worried pushing the rpm to rev limit :crying:, so if someone has done this test recently I would appreciate any info.

thanks in advance.

We have the same test here in Arizona (at least where I live). I've been thru it several times. I don't think it's a big deal (except that it costs $30 for a two minute test...colossal rip-off). Here you rev it to the limit three times and they measure the 'opacity' of the exhaust. Mine has always been about .1% of the allowed maximum which is about what I'd expect with a DPF. I don't think it'd hurt the truck unless there was something about to fail anyway. It's just a huge waste of time & money. Someone is making lots of $$ off it for very little benefit. It might be useful for big and/or older trucks with out the DPF but for the rest of us it's just bull****.

the cheapest here is around 80 bucks. the money is an issue, but i hate the fact that you have to rev to the max multiple times. I have no choice in the matter, it has to be done. hopefully all the money i spent on rotella t6 syn will pay off.

I'm in Ontario, I've had it done twice and yes....I hate the sound of it. They hold it on the rug for about 5 sec (which seems like eternity if your there listening). My 6.0L has a ton of KM on it and it does not seem to have harmed it in any way. They nailed me an extra $15 bucks the last time for a "drive clean" decal for the windshield. I'm not sure if it's mandatory but next time I'll ask and decline if it's optional.

I've wondered if it would be possible to use a tuner or something to lower the rev limiter to maybe about 3K and if so would it still pass.
