I run the gray bottle of Diesel Kleen all year, I am only in Seattle most of the year so it rarely gets below 30f. If you're in a colder climate, the white bottle has an anti-gel agent, along with the added lubricity and cleaning agents, as well as cetane booster. My fuel filter looks great when I change it every 10k, looks like it could last a lot longer.

Some people here run 1 quart of 2 stroke oil with every tank. I personally run the diesel kleen for 2 tanks before a filter change or when im out of 2 stroke. All of the other fillups are 2 stroke. Ive been experimenting with SAE 30 but thats just me :wink2::nono:

I started out using the Super Tech Outboard 2-Cycle TC-W3 Engine Oil from Walmart at 200:1. I recently started adding B100 at 2%, making my mixture B2. I'm still on my first tank of that, so I don't have much to say.

Here's a good report on lubricity enhancers.

I second diesel kleen, seems to be a quality product. I run gray bottle for the warmer months and white for the cold mn winters. Also there 911 product has saved my but twice with a gelled tank. Was up in far northern mn on a fishing trip and we hit negative 45 and she gelled, but with the diesel 911 it ungelled pretty quick!

CONCLUSIONS:

Products 1 through 4 were able to improve the unadditized fuel to an HFRR score of 460 or better. This meets the most strict requirements requested by the Engine Manufacturers Association.
Products 1 through 9 were able to improve the unadditized fuel to an HFRR score of 520 or better, meeting the U.S. diesel fuel requirements for maximum wear scar in a commercially available diesel fuel.
Products 16 through 19 were found to cause the fuel/additive blend to perform worse than the baseline fuel. The cause for this is speculative. This is not unprecedented in HFRR testing and can be caused by alcohol or other components in the additives. Further investigation into the possibilities behind these poor results will investigated.
Any additive testing within +/- 20 microns of the baseline fuel could be considered to have no significant change. The repeatability of this test allows for a +/- 20 micron variability to be considered insignificant.

In my 2010 I use silver (or white) DK in every tank.

I also carry a bottle of DK 911 in my truck bed at all times. Carrying 911 seems like very inexpensive insurance, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone with a diesel truck. You just never know ...

My Ford PSD Owner's Guide said if you buy good fuel, you don't need to add any snake oil to your fuel. I almost always bought my diesel from big, busy truckstops, and I never added anything to my fuel. I put almost 200,000 miles on that engine in almost 12 years, and when I sold it it ran like a new one.

The exception is anti-gell. The refinery formulates the winter-blend fuel for the expected temps, but if the temp falls way below the expected, then you might need to add some anti-gell if you live way up north. In west Texas I never needed even the anti-gell, so my truck never saw any fuel additives.

I have used several different additives, most I noticed no difference in power or mileage. Stanadyne, Opti-lube, Power Service Gray nothing. My engine does seem to run smoother when I put in a quart of ash-less 2-cycle lube in a tank of fuel. I do use the Power Service White bottle in the winter just because I might buy fuel in Alabama and use it in a much colder climate. One product that did make a difference in both the way my truck sounds, accelerates but negligible mileage difference was using B-20 fuel. I would use it more often it just isn't common where I live.

I buy the winter diesel treatment Ford sells, 1 bottle treats 125 gallons. The bottle has a long neck for easy pouring no funnel required. I am told the Ford Diesel Treatment is made for Ford by Stanadyne? Too bad the laws don't require the diesel pumps to post the cetane ratings on the diesel pumps as gasoline pumps are required to do with octane. I've heard some diesel brands have a higher cetane rating than other diesel brands.

So far, nobody has been able to show it is cost effective yet. MAYBE in a huge fleet of trucks, it might be able to make some sense over the LONG haul but I doubt it will save more money than it costs for us regular users.

Cost effective, a PSD ?, that possibility is a real laugh. I gave up on that long ago. I admit I do stuff with this truck just because it makes it run better, smoother or quieter. Sometimes I do it just because it makes me feel better. If I wanted cost effective I would sell it, work more overtime and hire out any hauling work I needed done much cheaper than what this thing has cost me.

When I say "cost effective" I am talking about whether the fluids save money in the long run. I use the report that Bosch gave and extrapolate and can't find more than 10% loss of life and that is being generous. So if you figure your injectors need a rebuild at at the 90% mark instead of the 100% mark, you have a cost there. Say your injectors cost $1000 to rebuild, you are costing yourself approximately $100. So, if over the life of the injector, you spend $500 but you save $100, I am not sure where the savings comes in.
