Just got back a few days ago from england and scotland. It amazed me their were so many cars out their that had that sweet purr of a diesel engine. Even thought diesel is 89 pence a liter, then you consider their pound=50 cents. So 1.70 U.S. a liter. Although their measurements are different then ares its over 5.50 a gallon, ouch. They definatly have the diesel idea down though. Although ive never seen so many ferraris, Lambos, and porsches. The only bad thing was no american 1/2 ton to 1 ton pickups. I did see many ford cars and commercial "Lori" semis. One chevy car, and something that excited me, NOT ONE DODGE /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I also saw a mercedes "smart" car that was probably less than 6 feet in length. If anyone can post a picture of it for me id be gratefull.

Actually their pound = approx $1.90

If it were 50 cents it would be half as cheap

Ford is one of the biggest auto producers in the UK, but they are notthe same as the Fords here. The Focus is the only car recently to come from Fords overseas operations. You will see quite a few Jeeps if you are in London.

My son lives in England with my ex, I visit twice a year, and he comes to the states twice a year. It always costs me so much when there, but it is a neat place.

Liters are the same everywhere in the world - that's why it's called the "International System of Measures". Pints, quarts, gallons & pounds differ between the States and England.

I'd be very tempted to buy a Diesel London Cab for my daily driver if one were readily available here.

You can import one of those diesel cabs, there are various companies here in the US and Canada that can get them for you.

I've seen them with either a small Perkins or Mercedes diesel engine in them. I was always impressed at the amount of interior room that they had. I took the tube when I was in London, but used the little black cabs when I was up north in Edinburgh.

By "readily" available I meant one which fits into my budget. I'm an engineer in The Motor City; my budget for a "new" car is about $5k. The no-fault insurance law and traffic here being what they are, I'm leaning toward driving disposable cars out of financial self-defense.
