Hi all,
I want to jump in and get my first PSD. I am leaning toward the 2006 PSD E-350 Superduty Extended cargo because of the utility, however I hate to give up the 4X4 ability that is available in the F-350 (or F-250).

Besides the cargo capacity and the 4X4 ability, what are the differencs between the two vehicles. I noticed that the towing specs are very different, anyone know why? What am I giving up in the F-350 so I can have the large secure cargo bay in the E-350.

4WD is available on the van through Quigley, a Ford approved vehicle upfitter. Check with your dealer and with Quigley. Many folks here that have them and maybe can give you ordering tips, but basically there is a code used for ordering it and it goes form the Factory to Quigley and then to your dealer. Quigley warranties their part, Ford warranties the rest but since Quigley is an approved ship through upfitter the conversion won't void your vehicle warranty with Ford.

Of course you reduce your towing capacity a little more for the added weight of the 4WD components.

You have to decide what you need more, lockable storage space or towing capability. In general I think the E-350 van with a Quigley 4WD conversion will be more money than a 4WD F-250/350.

Darth Surplus owns both a PSD van and a Truck so he maybe able to give a better pros and cons view on specific differences, etc.

The cool factor of the 4WD van cannot be ignored. I'd like to have one or convert mine but funds are currently limited for that sort of thing. Good luck, Let us know what you decide.

Well I would ask Ford what is the different with the 6 liter diesel between the two. I know for example with the 7.3 the Van was robbed of a few but very important features...the inner cooler being the big one that comes to mind. Also if you like to get under the hood and tinker the truck is soooooo much easier. No room to move in the vans. I own a Sportsmobile 4X4 via Quigley but now I understand they make their own version (sportsmobile) and it's better than Quigley’s. The big problem with Quigley’s is they modified the fuel tank which later delaminates and no one wants to take responsibility to getting it fixed. So stick with the Truck and buy a good shell. That's what I would do if I had to do it over again.

I just got my 2005 EB 350 Diesel Sportsmobile.

Right off the bat, I can tell you two differences are that the engine has a little less power (smaller intercooler) and the transmission does not offer the tow/haul mode.

GCWR is 16,000 lbs (3.55 axle) or 20,000 lbs (4.10 axle), while the GVWR is about 9,400.

Thanks for the input! I think I'll drop by the local Ford dealer and grill the salesman on what the differences are. I figured I would get a much more "complete" answer here than at a dealer.

I checked on Sportsmobile's web site and if I had the $15K for the Sportsmobile 4X4 conversion it would be a no brainer. Wish I had another $40K for the rest of the package too...

Am I thinking correctly that if I do the air intake, open up the exhaust and put in a chip with some gauges that I will unleash the power of the PSD?

Thanks again for your input,
Howard

But will void any warrantee on a new vehicle, trust me on this no matter what anyone else might say on the subject. Like my dealer this..bla bla bla...Ford will know if it was chipped and your screwed. Aint worth it trust me I have been dealing with Ford with my van for 2 years and it's still not right. DON'T do any aftermarket anything without talking to the dealer and get it in writing.

It realy depend on the Dealership.
Up here in Sierra Vista, AZ the dealer is not only selling the Banks systems at there parts desk.
They are Selling the Banks equipt trucks off the showroom floor....Ready to roll.

Service people say they are supporting the Banks program.
In this area it's good business. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Looks like I'll need to travel to Sierra Vista to pick up the van! LOL

If my local Ford dealer (where I will be servicing the van) is uptight about it I guess the safe thing would be to wait until the warranty expires to chip the beast.

If the only mod was to chip the van and every time I took it in to the dealership I flashed it back to original settings....would I be safe? The main reason I would want to chip the van would be to increase the MPG, but from what I've heard it will be hard to keep my foot off the floor and the grin off my face...
Thanks,
Howard
