Are there different starter motors for the 7.3 trucks? I just replaced mine - and the new one is much different than the old. The new one is a lot longer - seems more heavy duty, 3 bolt rather than 2. It also seems to start the truck faster than the old one & is quieter - though just maybe because it is new? Pity whoever gets my old wimpy core!

Did the Napa parts guy give me an upgraded motor? Anyone know about this?

That is strange because as far as I know all powerstrokes take three bolt starters. I am thinking you had an old IDI starter on the truck, I think they were two bolt units. The only other thing I remember is the IDI starters were massive in comparison to the DI units so this doesn't make a bit of sense to me.

Are you sure the old one didn't have a busted ear on it? Where did you find the third bolt?

NOT massive - I had a wimpy small 2 bolt starter on the truck - factory stock. It did not have a busted ear or anything like that.

I need to edit my sig - my latest GPR problem may just have been the starter? The truck starts a lot faster now than it ever has. Seems like I got a cost-reduction starter from Ford.

There were three bolt holes in the truck - the new starter just had a third ear on it where the old one had two.

I just did mine 2 days ago, and the new one had 3 bolts holes and was a little longer. Mine factory original only had 2 bolts holes.
