The ABS system on my truck just plain sucks. The truck stops fine unless it is an emergency stop on a wet road, then the pedal pulsates, and the truck just keeps going. I would rather the #($*$&^% thing just skid- I know how to handle that. I have been told I can disable the ABS by simply pulling a fuse. Anyone out there have any experience with this?

STOMP
STAY
STEER

ABS is not designed to STOP you so much as its designed to allow you to CONTROL your vehicle instead of putting it into a slide/skid.

Tires can TURN, or they can BRAKE, but if you try to do BOTH, you will put them into a skid. Skids are controllable, but they are difficult, and only the best can truly skid control a vehicle.

STOMP on the brakes. This activates the ABS.

STAY on the brakes. It will pulsate and feel terrible, but thats the sign your ABS is working.

STEER. Now that your brakes are in ABS mode, you can safely STEER the vehicle out of danger without risk of a skid/slide.

In a true "SKID" your vehicle can actually ACCELERATE! ABS helps to avoid that acceleration.

Dont disable your ABS. You just need to change your driving tactics a little bit and adjust to how correctly operating brakes work these days.

Your truck will stop faster with the ABS engaged, than it will in a full skid/slide.

I'm guessing that you didn't have bfg mt's on your last truck with no ABS. They might be better for emergency stops in the mud but they are not so good on wet roads. IF you disable the ABS, you will regret it when you really need to slow down in a big hurry while in a corner on wet roads.

disabling abs

I too would like to know how to disable abs. I do lots of icy road driving and the problem is I can't stop if 1 tire is on ice and the other 5 are on dry pavement. I understand the theory behind abs, just would like to try disabling them as 99 percent of my driving is done around town less than 35 mph. I drive an 08 f450 bucket truck. Just looking for answers not oppinions, thanx.

I agree with you. In my experience I don't need to be able to
safely STEER the vehicle out of danger without risk of a skid/slide.
I need to STOP.

Well sort of. There might be a little bit of momentum that carries over from the moment just before the tires break loose and go from static friction to dynamic friction. This momentum could cause some acceleration but not much. I suspect Mr. Newton (especially his first law of motion) would have issues with your statement at well.
