Did anybody watch the recent Myth Busters show that featured using straight WVO? All they did was strain the waste veg oil in a painters cone filter and then poured it right into a Mercedes Diesel.
What's up with that?

Running stright vege oil, used or not is nothing new. You would need a heating system and a way to switch back and forth. You start on petrol, get the tank of WVO to temp and then switch over. Before shutting down, you have to switch back to petrol to flush all the WVO out of the fuel system. If you do not, it gets solid at a very high temp. Not a cold weather friendly system with out a good heating and fitlering setup.
Biodiesel however does not require any special system or starting/stopping on petrol. It also suffers from cold weather and can be mixed with petrol at any percentage.

I think the key word here is "Mercedes".. those early Mercedes have a robust IP that is pretty well suited to veggie oil. There are a lot of older mercedes diesels that are running on straight veggie oil (single tank conversion.. no diesel for purge) provided that you live in the right climate and heat the oil prior to the injectors.

I saw a show few weeks back advertising using straight waste oil. The vehicle on the show was a 1997 F-350. The kit included a filter, lines and a heated tank in the bed of the truck. You can use WVO all year long, just to make sure the oil is heated to 100 degrees before burning it. I thought it was cool and check it out on the web. http://www.greasecar.com/ However for the kit for my truck its $1,970.00; think its a little expansive.

I saw the same episode on Myth Busters to. Can you filter the WVO and fill your tank having the diesel and the oil mix together has long the temperature isn’t too cold?

Yes you can as long as it is filtered really well. When I use oil, I put the oil in before I top off with #2. That way it gets all mixed up by the #2 getting pumped in. I prefer to run at 50% oil to 50% #2. It really helps on fuel costs. With the cost of diesel where I live at $3.59 and SVO at $2.50, I save $1 for every gallon of SVO I use and when I run WVO, it averages out to $1.80/gallon.

My 6.9 is the same way when it comes to fuel, I believe that engine would run on boiled horse urine if it came down to it.
