I'm trying to get some extra clearance for a turbo, the downpipe is the closest to giving heat problems. I was wondering if anyone knows if Ford made various sized engine covers (dog houses) for vans. Mine is an '86 so around this era.

I'm not sure, but I think you have to make one yourself or modify the one you have. Just a quess, but thinking of it I can't figure out why Ford should make more than one doghouse size for there trucks...., so nope, me thinking you make it self /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I have an 86 with a Banks turbo on it, and it fits with the stock engine cover.

There was a post here about 4 or 5 years ago regarding this problem by Mark Kovalsky.

What he did was loosen up all of the bolts holding the body to the frame and then he slid the body rearward on the frame just a tad.

He did it on a '92. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Thanks for the feedback.
I painted the downpipe with white paint and quickly bolted the house back on then took it off quick. I could then see where it touched, a 6" length just before the bend into the turbo. The insulation at that point could compress a bit. I made up a sheild that bolted to the downpipe mounting bolt on the turbo mount casting. The sheild does not touch to pipe but stands off about 1/2" and compresses the insulation on the doghouse. Will run it this way and keep an eye on it.
I bought this kit from Hypermax, explained the problem, in polite terms asking for ideas to solve the problem. The response was " have your wife carry a fire extinguisher" They went on to say they would ask around for ideas - they have not contacted me yet. Sad how one person can ruin a companies reputation.

Warwagons which is on here has an '85 with a turbo that he installed. Maybe you could PM him for info. As far as I know he is using the same doghouse his came with.

He was after me to put a turbo on my ambulance but after looking at all the extra BS under my doghouse there is no room. I would have to plumb all the rear A/C hoses and wiring so it's not worth it for me and it scared him away /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

B:
It is the difference between comedy and tragedy. If you fall down and break a leg it is funny; if I cut my finger on a piece of paper that's a tragedy. It's perspective.
On the turbo: If you paid $1,900 US for turbo and gauges, got wrong parts, and parts that don't fit the truck I think you too might not see too much humour in the "fire extinguisher remark" and lack of suggestions as to how to solve the downpipe heat problem.
Up to this point Hypermax were very good to correct stuff that should not have happened in the first place (wrong parts shipped) and were very helpful shipping the kit to me - so not all bad. My last word.
