99' F250 Super Duty. Dome light on truck will turn on manually but won't turn on when I open the door. Seems that there is 3 settings on the light above the center console. If I understand the settings there should be On (left side), Off (right side) and On when door opens (middle). Light works fine when I slide the button to ON, turns off when I slide it to off but won't come on when in the middle setting when opening door. Also, when I close the door the outside rear light above the bed stays on for a minute or so and when it shuts off it will still have a slight dim and kick the inside dome light on, also a slight dim not full light. This is when the setting is again in the middle position. Seems awfully strange.... So currently I have it in the off position so don't keep something on.

I hopes it a simple fix like a bad fuse, bad bulb or something like that. Also read that maybe the switch on the door is not operating correctly. Spray a little penetrating oil on the latch and close/open the door several times to loosen something up???

Hoping that somebody here on the forum had this same problem and could offer their fix solution. I plan on starting on the simple solutions (fuse and bulb) and work from there. Hope its not something electrical that I have to chase... Thanks - Scott

First test your dome light switch to make sure you have power to the dome light when the door is open...either door. If the switch is good, then spray with WD-40 the heck out of the door latch and open and close the door several times. If none of the above work you'll have to remove the door panel (look on YouTube for how) and test the ajar switch. If all that is good you might have issues with the GEM. I wouldn't think you have a problem with fuses or bulbs since the dome light works in the manual mode.

Griz - thanks for the suggestion. I just got done tackling my front pads/rotors and a brake fluid replacement so the dome light deal is on the schedule for the weekend. I'll let you know how it all goes. Thanks again.
