The rear passenger door lock actuator wasn't working on my brand new 'X. I suspect the dealer missed it in the inspection. Anyways, I called and they said to 'bring it in anytime' and someone would look at it quickly.

So they start looking at it, and I stand around to watch. They quickly decide that it's not working at all, and determine that they need to order the part. Quirkily, when they checked with their parts counter, they had two in stock (maybe this is getting more common a replacement?).

So they took off the door panel, at which point they determined the real problem was that the actuator wasn't plugged in !?! Thank-you Ford. So... it was a good thing that they had the part in stock, otherwise I'd be waiting a few more days for the same result.

Funny thing was, tho, that the tech came back while we were doing the paperwork saying that the lock worked, but the switch was broken. I wanted to know, so I asked, 'which switch?' ... to which he replied, 'The one on the rear passenger door.' ... seriously.

I educated him that the switch in question was the power window switch and that it wouldn't do anything with the key off. He proceeded to smack his forehead.

Heh. Why do we pay these guys again?

Inspection ? What a laugh!

When I picked up my X, the front left tire was polished and looking great except for the gash in the side wall ( a good 2 1/2 inches ) The mgr saw it and had it replaced pronto. The other thing I noticed when I got home was that the hood was scraping the grill. The grill was replaced and fine since then.

It just goes to show that the PDI is nothing more than a money grab.
That's why I always deduct it from the total, or no deal. Same goes for tank fill and admin fee. I tell them this and they agree. As long as it it washed they really don't do anything else because they get paid for waranty work. More profit for them.

This reminds me of the time we bought a brand new Sable wagon during the Presidents Day sale. Come May, the wife turns on the AC to find warm air. She takes it to the dealer, they check it out and say they need to order a new AC controller. Two weeks later, the new controller comes in and she takes it back for installation. Being the smart chick she is (despite being blonde /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) she tries the AC before leaving the lot. No dice...still warm air. Being somewhat confrontational, she parks her new car blocking the service area exit door and goes for the Service Manager. The manager gets the mechanic who promptly says "you told me to install it, you didn't tell me to check it!" (I would have fired the bugger on the spot!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vomit.gif) Anyway...bottom line... the factory forgot to install the fuse for the AC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I purchased 4 new door lock actuators for my 2000 F-350. The shop quote for the job, was just under 2000.00. I decided to try it. Both the front passenger and rear passenger side didn't work, knob moved, but didn't lock or unlock. Ok, I started with the front, watched a youtube video featuring a 2001. It had better access inside the door panel, a nice rectangular hole. Mine doesn't. Anyway, I got that one done.
So I figured the rear would be easier, and it was. excpt the motor doesn't' seem to have enough power, to trip the door lock. I can easily lock and unlock by hand. Everything moves easily. So now I am scratching my head. Tomorrow I'll pull it all apart, and see if there is anything obviously wrong.. Any suggestions would be helpful.. I suppose it's possible the motor on the actuator isn't good?

Thanks

What brand actuators did you buy? I’ve never had a problem with Standard Motor Product brand.

They were Dorman, but looking at the actual new body, it was made in china.. I can easily lock and unlock by hand, have looked it over and taken pictures to help see while inside the door.. all appears well, nothing binding up. I know several discussions on youtube said to test the actuator before finishing the install, so tomorrow out it comes,, drat!
