I have a 2002 Ford F250 4X4. The light for the door is open is always on. So I took it to the dealer as I was told they would be able to fix that but after about a week they gave up. Has anyone had this problem.

Thank you

your gonna have to replace the door switch, its in the latch.i did mine on my 02,wasnt too bad took about an hour.remove your door panel, theres three or four small torx bit(if i remember)that hold the latch to the door.youll see them when you look on the side of the door where the latch is,i also disconnected a small actuator rod.be careful not to brak the clip that holds that to the latch.then reach inside the door, swivel the latch around, and the switch is towards the bottom.it just twists out.hardest part of the job getting your hands inside the door, unless your hands are the size of a 5 year old.i believe the switch cost me like 25-30 at the dealer.relatively easy fix

I had the same problem on my '99 SD. I used PB Blaster and cured the problem. I was told PB Blaster works better than WD40 because it works well on the electrical items. I now give my door latches a little shot every time the truck is serviced and have not had any more trouble. (I also give the key cylinders a small shot) However, your switches my be too far gone and may need to be replaced. I wish you good luck as the light on the dash can be distracting by staying on.

i had the same problem in my 02. sprayed it down, light stayed on still but eventually just shut off driving down the road and the idiot light in dash went off as well. Only seemed to do it when i would go from indiana to florida, came on in georgia. did it a few times this winter. i was beginning to think it was my wife doing it because she was mad at me for going to Florida without her.

I've replaced the driver's door switch twice now in my '02. The hardest part is getting the old one to twist release. Remove the 3 torx so you can move the latch and you'll be fine. I think they are less than $20.

We have tested all the switches and they are not the problem. This was the first thing we did.

If it isn't the switch, what else could it be? How were they tested? How much did they charge you? I would be pissed if after a week a dealer couldn't fix a stupid coutersy light!!!

well i tested mine by spraying it with wd-40,still had the problem,so opened closed each door to isolate which door it was, then i used a small screwdriver to manually operate the latch and verify it closed(like the door was shut).as long as you havent hacked up any wires in the door id say its the switch.they wear, just from repeated use they wear a groove in them so when the latch closes it no longer contacts the switch. when you pull it youll see what i mean.its actually a pretty common problem on ford trucks .if you have basic mechanical skills you can do this in a afternoon.

Let's think about how and exactly where the switch is. It points upward toward the opening in the door which allows the grime and other crap to eventually work it's way into the switch. How was the switch tested? The only proper way to check the switch is to see if there is continuity through the switch ONLY when the door is open. Just seeing if the plunger moves will not tell you anything. The other way is to pull the wire harness off the switch and see if the lights are still on. IF and only if either of these have been done you then need to start tracing wires from the light down and find the source of power. Let me ask you this. Is the dome light constantly powered with a switched ground or is it positive switched?

If you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that the switch is NOT the problem then you need to know how the light is powered and start tracing wires.

Let us know what you find.
