Hello to all. I ordered a F250 and got a built date (6/01/03) but no dora.
Is that common or should I push my dealer for more info? I have never ordered a truck so all the info I can get is very appreciated
thanks

Hi, cbear, and <font color="red">Welcome!</font> to TheDieselstop.

Only very "in the know" buyers know enough to even know a DORA exists. Normally, the DORA is a communication between the "factory" and the dealer, and is not intended to be provided to the customer.

But some of us darned "internet buyers" know that a priced DORA is a very useful document for the buyer. DORA = dealer order receipt acknowledgement, and contains the option codes of the vehicle ordered, plus the MSRP and dealer's invoice prices of every option.

Informed buyers order the truck based on "X dollars over invoice" prices, and with the understanding that the dealerperson will order a priced DORA (order code C09) and make a copy of the priced DORA and give it to the buyer the next business day after the order is processed. Then you should check the DORA to be sure there were no errors in the order. Plus that locks in your price, so you already know how much to arrange to borrow or how big a check to write from your wife's trust fund. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you ordered a 2004, then you can't receive a priced DORA until prices are announced in July. But you should receive an unpriced DORA now and the priced one later. If you ordered a 2003, then your dealer already has a DORA for your order - but unpriced unless they ordered code C09.

If you are late to the party and just now heard of a document called a DORA, then be straight with your dealerperson and beg and plead for a copy. If it wasn't part of your original agreement to order the vehicle, then they may give you some static. And if your deal wasn't for "X dollars over invoice" then they may refuse to give you a copy of a priced DORA.

I went to my dealer yesterday 5-12-03 and ordered an '04 F350 XLT and the prices were right on the build sheet. There was just one little problem with an error in the ordering program. It charged me for Fog lights and wouldn't let it be removed.

"Fog Lights" are optional on the 2004 XLT's now, which doesn't make a whole lot of sence to me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Hi SmokeyWren,

Just like cbear, I too am new to the "TheDieselstop". Although I have bought many new vehicles, I have never been more excited about the whole process than I am now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif As far as the whole "Dora" thing, you went to great lengths to explain it to cbear, however I'm still confussed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I ordered my Big Red Mechine this pasted Monday, and Ron (salesperson) faxed me a "Vehicle Order Confirmation" I have read over it and I see "Price Dora" mixed in with all the options that I added. What exactly does that mean, is what I have a "Dora", or is it something else? I also see the "Order number (5473) and I was wondering if this is all I need to track the manufacturing of my new machine? I have noticed in other post, that someone is supplying build dates, what information is needed for that? The invoice on the machine that I ordered is 38,412.80 and I'm getting it for 37,412 before rebates, whatcha think? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm so excited, I don't know if I can wait the 6 weeks or not!! Thanks inadvance, Scotty

Something else. The Order Confirmation shows what the dealer ordered. It's from the dealer to Ford.

The DORA is the response from the "factory" back to the dealer. It confirms the order, plus it may correct some errors that were on the dealer's order. The computer program pretty much makes the dealer order only combos of stuff that can be ordered, but sometimes there's a glitch in the program. When you get the DORA, you'll know exactly what Ford is going to build for you.

I don't keep up with that thread, but I think they need the VIN before they can track your order. You'll get the VIN as soon as Ford schedules your order to be built.

The main thing you need the order number for is to find the right page on the weekly status report. Show up at your dealer every Friday night or Saturday and ask for a copy of the page from the weekly VOPC status report that includes your order number. That report will tell you the latest status of your order. Look in the '99-up FAQ on TheDieselStop for the button for "During your order" to interpret the Ford-speak status on that report.

I think $1,000 under invoice plus you get the rebate is a great deal. Better than 99.44 percent of all deals. Your dealer was really wanting to get you into a Ford. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif
