I have my truck in right now having the tranny rebuilt and I got to thinking with the tranny out it would be a pretty good time to put a downpipe on. I was wondering how hard is this? Is there any particular kind that works well and fits nice? I was told by someone that you need porta power to mash the firewall in is this true? I know a guy at a local muffler shop that says a 3" does not flow anymore exhaust than the stock piece does, is this true? Thanks for any responces.

the guy at the local muffler shop doesnt know what hes talking about. do a search for some pics of the stock downpipe. its get down to about maybe 1" wide. its not to terribly hard and a porta power is not necessary. i used a big spud bar to do mine and pryed against the head onto the firewall. be careful if you go this route to what you pry against. probably the best mod you can do to your truck.

not sure exactly how much is needed i just pryed a little then kept trying until it went in. wasnt too hard though. hardest part for me was getting the old pipe out. might not be so hard with the tranny out though. and yes a spud bar is basically a big pry bar.

agreed with the tranny out it will be much easyer to install and to dent in the fire wall where down pipe comes though. you only have to dent it enough for clearance so it doesn't rub. I know it was a bear to do it with the tranny in thats for sure /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
