Hey peoples, been a while since my last visit. I've been able to repeatedly start my S1600 with no real trouble now. I drove it down to inspection, then picked it up the next day and discovered that the brakes were grabbing in the rear. I'd always told my dad that it felt as if something was holding the truck back when I let off on the clutch. Now that I know what it was......could dragging brakes possibly contribute to my smoking problem, since the engine's having to work harder?

Dragging brakes are probably not making the engine smoke. A load is a lot more work than dragging brakes.

Your dragging brakes are probably caused by corroded piston(s) in your calipers.

I assume you have the original single piston calipers, twin piston calipers for a 1700 bill bolt directly on, although you have to change the rubber brake lines because the attachment is different. There's a guy on eBay ( http://stores.ebay.com/TheDealsKeepuRoll...4QQftidZ2QQtZkm ) that sells reman twin piston calipers for $80 each, no exchange. I've bought 4 of them. The twin pisons are centered much better on the pads than the single piston is.

Where are you located?
