Hi all -

I'm a newbie with my first 97 F-350 Powerstroke so thank you in advance for your patience.

PROBLEM: When I start my truck in the morning, fuel is dripping out of a gadget located on the right side of the fuel-filter, just behind the "fuel-filter" indicator wire plug-in.

It stops after driving awhile.

What exactly is this thing? Can I fix this myself?

Hey, welcome to TDS.

Are you referring to a little lever on the backside of the fuel bowl/filter housing? Probably yellow? That lever is used to drain the fuel bowl to remove any collected water (should be done probably once a month or more, FYI). Well that drain valve has a couple o-rings that can end up leaking after some time. This could be what's leaking on your truck.

I believe a very recent thread had the part numbers and such for the o-rings, and some info on replacing them. You can do a search and find it that way.

Actually, here is a link to some instructions from Dfuser:
http://dfuser.com/Install%20Guides/Dfuser%20Fuel%20Filter%20Housing%20Drain%20Valve%20O-Rings%202005-03-28.pdf

Take a look at that and see if the location it points to is the same as where yours is leaking from. I believe you can get the o-rings at various stores, if you know the proper size.... should be able to find it in a search.

Thanks Ryan -

1. Thanks for that link. Yet mine looks different. See pics
here.

Would this be the same thing as what you sent me just missing the arm?
I'm tempted to unscrew it. Would fuel come gushing out? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Please let me know

2. The last two pics is showing my breather situation: duct tape.
The truck seems to run fine but I'm wondering what I'm missing here. The dealer said that it would cost me $450 for a piece of plastic though I can't recall what he said.

3. I noticed you were in Oakley. I'm starting a new job in Martinez Monday. Since you are a local, who would you recommend to take the truck to if ever I need work done on it. I would appreciate your insight.

Thats a fuel filter restriction sensor, serves a purpose only if filter becomes very restrictive. Either buy a new one (50 bucks from ford) or remove it, toss in the trash can, and then install a 25 cent 1/8" pipe plug. Leave the wire hangin', careful to not overtighten the plug or new sensor as the housing will crack.

If I was in your shoes, I'd go with Richter's second option. $0.25 is a good price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry but can't make any suggestion on who to take the truck to, as I haven't taken mine anywhere since I've owned it. Don't plan to either as long as I can help it.... with some help from TDS. So far, so good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
