2000 f 550 7.3 auto .driver said he was on highway and truck just stop going but motor is running fine.He pulled to the side and truck won't move forward or reverse .cant put it back in park unless u turn off cause it makes bad sound.thanks for any advice,just look under and drive shaft is spinning so problem must be in the rear end

If the driveshaft is spinning, you either have a broken differential, broken gears, or a broken axle shaft. A broken axle will act the same as a tire spinning on a slippery surface. The rear end should be a full floater, meaning the axle shafts can be easily removed since they carry no weight. At the axle flange in the center of the wheel you will see 6 or 8 bolts in a circular pattern. Remove those bolts and you can pop out the axle shaft. If one is broken, it will be readily apparent. You can also jack both rear tires off the ground and try turning one. If the other side doesn't turn, it's probably a broken axle. If it does turn, it could be a snapped pinion, broken ring gear, or broken differential. If it is 4x4, he could limp it home or at least to a safer location by using 4wd.
