On the 2001 F-250 SD, does the driver's side winshield pillar have the holes/threads necessary to accept an assist handle? Perhaps the driver's side assist handle was an option back in 2001? My steering wheel lock is broken, and I suspect it got that way by continously grabbing the wheel when getting into the truck. I see that newer F-250's have assist handles on both sides.

Thanks!

There's no handle on mine, either, and I sure wish there was. I pulled the plastic trim and there are no weld nuts there for attaching a handle. If it was an option, they must have only put the nuts in those receiving the handle. Don't think it would be a simple retrofit. Unfortunately...

my 02 Lariat crew cab does not have that handle either. There are handles everywhere else. Sure wish one was on driver side.

IIRC, you can add the grab handle to the driver side, as the holes for the mounting bolts are already there. I think you just have to cut some holes in the A-pillar trim. I think if you search you can find some past threads discussing this, but that's just what I remember off the top of my head.

I sat in an 05 once and one thing I noticed was the grab handles EVERYWHERE. There was one on each a-pillar spot (driver and pass), one on the rear seat driver and pass spots that was sort of in the corner between the roof and B? pillar, and then one above each seat near the tops of the windows... that's EIGHT grab handles. I think my 2000 only has 3... one on pass A-pillar, and then the two in the rear where the pillar meets the roof. Maybe someday I'll add all those handles that the newer trucks have...

I found this link for adding a grab handle.
GrabHandle

However, I pulled off my trim, and I don't have those notched areas where the holes go. I just have a flat piece of steel. I guess one could get the handle, use it as a template to drill the holes, and put it in the same location as the passenger side handle.

I was wondering if the grab handles are the same part for both sides. The reason being is I'm not sure my interior color was still around whatever year they started adding the driver side handle.

My interior is denim blue, haven't seen many trucks this color which leads me to believe it is only a 99 color.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

Yes I believe the blue interior was only on early 99s. SmokeyWren would probably know for sure, though; maybe you could PM him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

I think they are the same for either side after looking at mine. Now I am off to order a handle and dig around for my rivnut kit.

As far as my blue interior goes I really like it, doesn't get stained and all grungy looking like the more commonly found tan and grey interiors that's for sure. Even the stereo guy commented on it, he hadn't ever seen a blue Super Duty interior.

I've never seen one with the blue interior, either. If you have some pics would you post a few? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

I can only go with what I saw when I was at GM in the Van body shop. They started doing "OH ****" handles on the vans a few years ago on the passenger side. ON GMs there was a totaly different setup. they had a re-inforced "A" pillar. Not just nuts welded into the pillar frame. Dont know what they look like on Fords. Just an FYI! When I get home I could pull the covers off my 99 and the 03 to compare if ya want!
