Hi,

I have a 2000 F250 4x4 that does not seem to run with the same vigor it used to, seems to take longer than usual to shift to the higher gear and also seems to vibrate between the 55 - 60 mph ( smooths out at 70+)

At all speeds it seems like an imaginary very heavy load has been hooked to the truck

Engine seems to run fine, idles fine starts up easy,

What could it be? No check engine lights..

Have you removed the driveshafts, and inspected the u-joints, how is the carrier bearing. Do you get a shudder when the OD engages? How many miles on the truck? The vibration, is it with the truck pulling only, or does it go away when you let off the throttle?

No I have not done any of those, so I dont know what state the carrier bearing is in. I did not notice any shudder when the O/D engages. It seems like there's vibration even when I let go off the throttle, which makes me think its the drivetrain rather than the engine. Does seem a little less pronounced with the leg off the throttle though.

My free opinion....

I would investigate the part about the "not running with the same vigor it used to".

The way the engine is performing will affect how the transmission operates. I have recently learned that a degrading TPS could cause shifting problems. You may also have a stuck EBV valve causing performance to be reduced, thus causing some abnormal shifting (not too sure about this) but the point is, it could be engine related and not so much drivetrain. But it definately would not hurt to check the play in your u-joints and carrier bearing...I have had my driveline rebuilt twice and both times the u-joints had play and the carrier needed to be replaced.

Motor performance can definately affect tranny shifting, along with cold temperatures. Tranny fluid level full, any fuel related issues? A CPS starting to fail can cause performance issues.

I am having the same problem with my 99 f350 or was i should say , it started with OD, then it started doing it shifting into 3rd now it has started doing it in 2nd , with the same power loss as original poster has , i was told it was the torque converter ( shutter ) by a couple of shops and this was a normal problem for the Power strokes from 97 to 01 and i am scheduled for replacement on the 26th , i guess my question is has anyone else had this problem and was it a problem as i was told it was ?

I had a vibration in my 01, and it turned out to be the slip joint on the rear driveshaft, it needed to be greased. that would not effect engine performance of course but it's an easy fix for the vibration.
The engine performance could be an injector or 2 going bad. I don't want to put a scare into you (it would if it were my truck, I loves me some 01 Lariat). Check the fuel pump pressure too.
I guess the best thing to do at this point is take it into a ford dealer to have them check it out and then go from there, you'd hate to keep throwing parts at it, it gets expensive.
