After I come to a stop at a light, when I then takeoff, I feel a slight slip in the drivetrain and then it stops with a dull thump or clunk. More felt than heard. If I takeoff very easy than it doesn't clunk.

Where would you suggest I start looking? I am getting no vibration in the drivetrain.

I will be using the truck for extended trips soon and want to find the problem before it gets worse.

Common but easily solved issue with the two-piece drive shafts. You need to drop the rear half or the drive shaft and lube the slip splines between the drive shaft halves. Match mark the differential flange position and the position of the two drive shaft pieces. They are stack and unit balanced, balanced together, so they have to go back together in the same plane to maintain their balance. Use the FORD blue lube with TEFLON or some Slick 50 "One" grease with PTFE (TEFLON) so you don't have to do it every 15K.
Safety, you are disconnecting the park function when you disconnect the drive shaft. Have the brake set and the wheels blocked and work on level ground. Pretty easy to do, takes me about 45 minutes taking my time. Good luck 106.

Thanks, that is what I was hoping it was. I am guessing that the torque moves the springs enough that the splines move in or out a little bit causing the thump. I will lube it the first chance I get and see how it works. Joe

Many say to use teflon grease but I did mine in the field with regular axle grease. It's been 130,000 miles and my clunk has never returned.

Maybe I'm just lucky.
