Hopefully that is the correct name for it? Has anyone replaced one?

There have been many folks here that have replaced the DMFW (which you have correctly called). Most folks choose to replace the flywheel and clutch with a single mass flywheel/clutch assembly since the DMFWs were a problem area. The job is fairly straightforward, just use a tranny jack to lower and move the tranny back. I put in a Southbend Con-O setup and love it, while many others have gone with a Luk SMFW kit. If you replace it, replace the clutch release lever while you're in there. Cheers!

Nice method is to use long threaded rod or long bolts in two holes, undo cross member and slide trans back and let it hand off the bolts easy as hell to line back up then. put driveshafts back in etc. and your done. Yes this is severly simplified most steps missing but if you have do a clutch before then you will get the idea.

I just replaced the DMFW with the Luk conversion kit and I love it. Also considering that it was half the price of a new flywheel. Ford and even AutoZone wanted $1295 for the flywheel, I got the whole conversion kit from AutoZone for $665 with tax and it has a lifetime warranty.

Buy a SouthBend Clutch

I replaced my failing DMFW about 3 months ago with an SBC. The only issue I have with a Single Mass FW is you get more harmonic noise through the Trans. I get tranny noise between 800-1000 RPM no matter what when I pull away from a stop. Other than that, the pedal isn't so stiff and you don't have to worry about the flywheel coming apart while rolling down the road. I have no issues with it being more grabby than stock either. I think I bought the Con O, which wil handle up to 350HP. Mine is only about 35-40 over stock so it works well. I bought mine for $650 from a diesel outfit up in Enumclaw, Washington and got free UPS shipping as well. Way better than stock in my opinion.
