My truck is a dually with a 10.25 rear.

I'm not really sure the difference between the dually and the regular axle. I think the hubs and brake drums are different.

If that's the case, then you'll just need new hubs.

If you wanted to eliminate the drum brakes, you could find a Dana 60 dually axle for a 450 that has the rear disk brakes on them, but then I'm not sure how you would do the P-brake.

I'm not sure what "bud wheels" are, but I know from experience that if you use the single rear wheel rearend, the inside tire is going to rub on the leaf springs. You will need the DRW rearend for best results. I used the rearend from a diesel van and that happened to be a couple inches wider, but I had to make a piece on the lathe for the dually wheels to center on, since they center on the hub itself, not on tapered lug nuts.

i thought that you could probably just put the bud wheels on a 10.25 rear axle. i have one one my truck that is a dually and my dad has one on his truck which is not a dually they look exactly the same. i would say give it a shot. you could also try some longer studs if you can find any and use a spacer. but i wouldent try that if your going to be hualin any thing or being hard on the truck in any way

A Dually rear is 4" wider than a SRW rear. As said before if you put daully wheels on a SRW rear they will hit the springs.

A SRW pickup and a Cab/chassis DRW (34.5" frame no bed from factory) use the same width rear
A Dually (truck that left factory with a bed) rear is 4" wider than SRW.
A SRW van rear is 2" wider than a SRW pickup.
A DRW van ( typically a box truck) I am told is almost 6" wider ( I haven't verified this) than a SRW pickup rear.

Budd wheels are disc wheels. They are used on all Ford trucks, dually or otherwise. If they are not Budd wheels they are Dayton type wheels with demountable hubs. Here is a an article that explains it.

Truck Wheels: Budd vs. Dayton - Ex Isle Forums
If you read the complete article the dually wheels used on Fords are UNIMOUNT. Budds are centered by the lug nuts.

The F450 have the 10 lugs. All F250 & 350 are 8 lugs... The dually brakes are bigger than the 250 & 350. The F450 rear end has very tall gears. I believe the 4.56 is the lowest you can have and it goes up to 5.36 so you will have power but not speed at all. Remember the front end needs to be the same bolt pattern as the rear end.. Or be prepared to carry two spare tires and rims...

thanks for advice about lug patterns and spares, wont be a huge problem to carry another. what i need to find out without actually seeing one side by side with mine is the measurements for the leaf springs and the width. it seems to me it wouldnt be cost effective for ford to have different frame widths but spring perches may be different due to different wieght and ply's. also about the gears the donor truck has a 5 speed which is the main reason i want it so that will help with highway. thanks again

A F450 uses a 34.5" width frame while your SRW uses a 37" frame. The leaf spring mounting points on the 450 rear will be narrower than your truck.

Thanks, but not worried about conversion kit it is gonna get flat bed'd. I want to use tranny maybe motor and rear from a 87 f450. trying to decide if it is worth the headache. want better mileage and power (who doesnt) but reliability is a major factor also.

dad sent me a video truck is on last 30 secs or so.

You can move the spring pads but the F450 rear will be approx. the same width as your current SRW. So you won't be able to put duals on it.

The cab/chassis trucks use the narrow 34.5" frame. Any truck that left the factory with a pickup bed (SRW or Dually) will be on a 37" frame. A F450 will be a 34.5" frame.
