I just read on the diesel place forum that the lastest numbers for the 2006 Duramax is out and they look pretty good. 360 hp and 650 ft lb tq.

If these numbers end up being correct, do you thing Ford will step up to the plate this time? I don't thing they have a choice, as we all know, most people look at the numbers. And this would put the Powerstroke way back! (on paper anyway!) It is starting to look like 700 ft lb tq is right around the corner.

What was the 7.3 numbers in 2000? (The year before the Duramax was released!) 235 hp and 440 ft lb tq?

Pretty sure 235HP, 500tq...

Duramax numbers sound good.. I'm thinking Ford won't up the 6.0L again because it'd make the new 6.4L TT look less appealing..

This is getting ridiculous.

I'd be happy with 275hp and 550tq. Heck, I'm happy with my STOCK numbers for crying out loud.

When will the madness end???

It won't. There will always be those guys that trade their trucks every yr or two simply because they have to have the latest and greatest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hopefully, the madness won't end until I get 1000 hp under my hood.

The 2006 Duramax is rated 310/605 with Allison and 300/520 with manual trans so I don't think they will rate it 360/650 anytime soon.

I am almost positive that those numbers won't see the first truck off the 06 lines. The numbers are going up! That`s a givin` I have seen to much information to believe the numbers aren't going up significantly. Only question is how much, and will the Cummins and Powerstroke make the move as well.

I already have more power/torque then we will see any time soon from any of the big three. (Well over 400 rwhp, and 800+ ft lb rwtq.)But if the numbers are accurate, then Ford will be 35 hp and 70-80 ft lb tq behind, and I really don't think Ford would allow that. It`s one thing to be 2nd or 3rd by a few ft lb. But this would be significant.

Why stop there, bud? Why not 1,100hp? 1,200hp? 2,000hp?

Like I said, this is getting ridiculous.

I've read that Toyota will have a 350 fwhp and 700 fwtq for 07 or 08, but by then they will have some catching up to do the way things look.

HDMAX,
99 powerstrokes were 235hp and 500 lb ft. torque, I am not sure about the 2000's but I think they are the same.

99 saw the 235/500 motors, 2001 got the 250/525 with manual trans as a late release.
They bumped it up to 275 HP in '02 but I don't recall that the torque went up wit that HP increase.

Those big numbers may be for the Diesel Sport (or whatever they call it) GM truck that was shown at some shows. I recall that truck being a performance version wity big wheels but a lower tow rating.

I was trying to buy an early 03 7.3. They had 275hp and 520lb ft of torque with the auto. It was for that only for 03 and the run ended in october or november with the release of the 6.0.

The problem with these hp wars isnt the engine. The engine is not the weak link. Its the trannys behind the engines that limit the output of the engine. These things have to tow a 5th wheel reliably(and safely) until the trannys are off warranty.

That is why you are seeing higher hp #'s for autos. They derate the engine in low and high gear to protect the tranny. That's one good reason to get a manual transmission. If I paid for 310/605 I would want it!

Wrong. All '03 7.3L autos had 250hp and 525tq. The manuals had 275hp and 520tq.
