e 350 spark plug

my future brother-in-laws van blew out a spark plug (02 e-350)

What are the chances that the threads are still ok?

I have heard they make a kit for thread repair is this true?

Looks like it is the cylinder at the back of the engine so it should be relatively "easy" to get at from inside the van.

If's called a "sert" kit. The long name is Time-sert kit.
I got the kit, almost done with the repair.

I can't get the insert to thread into the newly tapped hole.

Looking through a mirror (gotta love vans) I can see the threads are clean but the insert won't thread on.

I am stumped :icon_rolleyes:
Looks like maybe the first thread doesn't come flush to the edge of the hole. I think the tap may have wobbled slightly when I started.

I wonder if a thread chaser would clean it up so I can get the insert started?

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
