Bought this truck last fall from a guy. It is a 91 F250 with a 7.3. Just got done redoing the heads due to a bad valve. Also replaced injectors,rockers, and head bolts. So i have alot of $$$$ in her and now have another problem. Truck had 35X12.50 17 tires on it. Replaced them with 265 75 16 tires that are stock height. The problem i was having was the torque converter kept locking and unlocking all the time at highway speeds. I thought going back to stock tires would cure the problem..not so much. Still does the same when crusing at 65 the tc locked up is 1900 then it unlocks and goes up to 2100 and it keeps hunting where it wants to be. Does the same thing in 3rd too. So what do I do now... All the brake lights work, fluid level is good, truck shifts good and the od light does not flash. Hopefully, I can fix this without killing my pocketbook more. so what do all you experts think:thumbsup:

I had that problem about a year ago and I replaced th trottle position sensor it the one on the right of the injector pump you will have to set it once you put the new one on but if you mark where the old one is it should be very close I think I paid $40 or 50.

Try resetting the FIPL........

To set to specs:
With a warm engine and the idle speed set to your engine specs probably 650 in drive (curb idle) shut off the engine.

Now with "Key On Engine Off". First connect the negative lead of a volt meter to the negative battery post, then place a paperclip straightened to slide up the side of the center wire for a good contact, touch the positive lead to the paperclip. Electrical connector must be connected to the FIPL.

If your FIPL requires resetting loosen the small torx screws and attempt to attain the correct setting. You can loosen the large bolts on the bracket if necessary but try to retain the centering on the FIPL/blade.

Your trying to get closed throttle voltage: 1.1 V, wide open throttle voltage: minimum of 3.8 V but not more than 4.3 V.

If you can attain those #s then tighten the screws/bolts and ensure the voltage is at the correct setting after tightening. You can also do a slow sweep of the fuel lever from idle to WOT to see if there are any blanc (dead) spots, much easier with a really $$$ meter with capture mode. If you still find there are hard shifts or very soft slippery shifts you can adjust to suit your driving but be warned slippery shifts will burn the trans up.
