I am pulling a 2300lb trailer loaded with 4 cords of dry cedar (8000 lbs). I have been listening to many people who have told me that I will lose the tranny. 177,00 on the truck. maintained right on the numbers. I know not to use the OD up the hills but feel it is OK on the flats or downhill. Let's hear it. I am thinking that the tranny will hold and I wnat some more opinions 1997 powerstroke HD with E4OD Trans. Thanks

Put a trans temp guage on it, add an aftermarket stacked plate cooler, keep the trans temps in a safe range (175-225) and pull the day lights out of it. If it starts heating up you are probably slipping the TC.

I pulled my 26' travel trailer (7K) all over the northwest, down to Yellowstone, and live here in western Canada where there are certainly some of the steepest mountain passes...not to mention my trips up the Alaska highway on annual hunting trips...and never had an issue with my stock tranny.
I HAVE upgraded it now, mainly in preparation to the larger injectors I installed, by its never gave me a second of trouble in my '95 F-250! Now that it has been upgraded, I believe I'll get alot of trouble free years still thankfully.
I agree with the others, add a gauge to keep an eye on transmission fluid temps, and add a large cooler, and your good to go! Take it out of OD on the worst of hills where your really pulling, and back in OD once you crest the hill and you'll be fine.
