I am interested in adding a drain plug to the transmission pan. What kind should I get and where exactly do I put it? I have seen some mounted on the side of the pan, and some mounted directly on the bottom. Any info appreciated as well as pros and cons.

You can use a pan for a 4r100. They have drain plugs. There is a standard and a deeper pan referred to as the 4X4 pan. Were about $50.00 form Ford last I looked. I need to order one myself.

NAPA has a drain plug for about $8. I put in mine at the lower part of the pan. I think a 1/2" drill bit, but check before drilling.
Been on there for 50,000 and no leak, but replace the o ring at each change.
