Well, here is the deal. I was driving to work today. Which by the way is only 2 miles away so I drive with the o/d canceled. I was almost to work and the light started to flicker off and on. I am going to try and see if it does it again but I thought I felt something disconnect when I turned the o/d back on the off again. Any ideas. I know that if it blinks there are problems but this is more of a flicker like a bad connection or something... HELP!!

I had the same problem with my '93 CC dually twice - the first time I drained/changed A/T filter, flushed the cooler lines, and buttoned it back up. Light stayed off for a few months but finally came back on. Ended up taking it to the dealer were they replaced the lock-up torque converter. All fixed after that. All occurred at about 120k miles and didn't have any problems after the dealer fix (I later sold the truck at 188k miles).

I am stumped. I took it out for a highay speed test drive with no problems. I tried quick acceleration, slow, I even tried steady 40mph and took it out of o/d. When I did that, it jumped out of o/d like it should have and stayed out even though the like was flickering. WTH!!! The 5 speed is looking real inviting now!! I am looking at getting a good T/C anyway so who knows. Any others ideas or cmments would be great.

Hope someone has some more suggestions.
The same thing just happened to my truck sunday. It is also a 93 with a rebuilt trans. The transmission only has 5000 miles on it.
Same as above, everything seems to be working, but the od light flickers. I checked all the connections and the speedo and tach all work ok. I did find a walnut propped on the fipl ( the squirrels in the yard are in deep do do ) so I unhooked the battery in hopes of resetting everything but the od light keeps flickering. Should I take it to a shop
for I'm lost as to what is happening.
Please help!

The OD light will blink ANYTIME there is a transmission fault code set. It does not indicate any particular problem.

Get a code scanner and pull your codes. Wal-Mart has or had one for Fords that is about $35 bucks. Make sure you follow the code pulling procedure or you will get incorrect codes.

The wire to the light is probably damaged where the wire enters the shifter inside the steering column. It's not unusual for the wire to break or the insulation to wear through, and then it shorts and the light flickers.

I took the covers off around the shift lever, looked and played with the wires. They all seem to be fine. the blinking didnt change while moving the wires around. Can any of you tell me the name of the code readers that you have bought that work on the ford diesels. And also let me know where you hook it up. I sure hope nothing is going wrong with the trans.

I picked up an Innova #3143 in Wallymart here in Canada about $30CDN, but I have not used it yet. The plugin is in the corner closest the drivers hood hinge usually.

Here's what your looking for Ebay web page I advise buying it in the area/country where you live.

I spoke with a tranny guy a couple of days ago and he said more often than not when it flickers like that, it is just the push button switch on the end of the shifter. It is real easy to take out. I tried to make sure and it try pries out real gently like. Ebay has then for like $10 plus shipping. I am going to run codes on it though just to make sure. Pray to the tranny gods for us.
