I recently picked up a 1995 e350 with a bad transmission. I just finished the teardown and found a cracked input shell as well as pieces of a snap ring. What could cause that? This is my first transmission rebuild so I’m learning but capable. Can anyone recommend a rebuild kit? The friction clutches and steels look good so I don’t want to buy a bunch of stuff that I don’t need. Thanks for your time

I got the new sun shell in today. Do you always have to replace the clutches? Mine look nearly new, I don’t want to replace stuff that still has plenty of life.

You don't have to replace the clutches. Many people feel that if they went to all the trouble to get them out, they may as well replace them. Your mileage may vary.
